Household Hazardous Waste

Allied Waste cannot accept household hazardous wastes with your garbage. To dispose of household toxic products safely, residents can call the San Mateo County Hazardous Waste Hotline at 650-363-4718. Household wastes that are categorized as "hazardous" include: paints and thinners, varnishes and stains, pesticides and herbicides, automotive products, cleaning products, furniture/metal polishes, Latex Paint, antifreeze.

Hazardous Materials DisposalThese household hazardous waste can be disposed of at drop-off sites several times each year. Residents can call the San Mateo County Environmental Health Hazardous Waste Hotline to confirm dates and sites for residential disposal of hazardous wastes. The number, again, is 650-363-4718. Appointments are required to minimize delays. The service is free.

Free Drop off at Daly City, City Hall

Drop off your household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge at
Daly City City Hall (333 90th Street, Daly City) on the following date:

  • Saturday, November 8th, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

You must call (650) 363-4718 to make an appointment or visit events.smhealth.org/events to schedule an appointment online.

The HHW Program accepts the following materials:

  • Household batteries
  • Car batteriesLatex paint
  • Fluorescent lamps
  • Oil-based paints, varnishes and stains
  • Paint thinner
  • Household cleaners
  • Aerosol spray cans
  • Furniture and metal polishes
  • Pesticides and garden chemicals
  • Pool chemicals
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Art and hobby supplies

The HHW Program does NOT accept the following materials:

  • Explosives or ammunition
  • Medical/infectious wastes
  • Radioactive wastes
  • Compresses gasses (except propane for camping stoves or barbeques)
  • Asbestos; Tires
  • Appliances or electronic wastes
  • Business wastes
  • Construction wastes
